And puppy makes 3
A little note to let you know that Johnathan and I have decided to get a dog. Saturday is the big day that our family goes from 2 to 3. Details to follow.

The Great Band Shoe Fiasco
This is a marching band shoe.
We usually walk onto football fields (which are OUTSIDE) in these shoes. Our percussion ensemble wears these shoes with their uniform to march across a mat that is painted to match the theme of the show. We bring the mat with us.
Electrical tape and swiss army knife (with scissor attachment).
I might have used these tools to tape things like instrument feet to keep them from scuffing the floor of the gym (which we cover with our mat) because people are finicky about precious gym floors (per athletic directors/control freaks).
Saturday, a different story. Turns out, hard soled shoes could possibly scuff a floor that already has a mat taped on it. We add our mat to said mat before walking on the gym floor that could possibly be scuffed with the shoes. Do you see the ridiculous extremity here?
Solution: electrical tape the bottom of the marching shoes.
Mandated.
ALL of the shoes.
9 pairs of shoes!!!
Lots and lots and lots of tape (we had 2 separate CVS runs in this process).
What does this amount to?
A first place trophy, that's what.

Musical Design
One of the neatest parts of having your own place is that you get to decorate it. One of the most difficult challenges of having your own places is that you have to decorate it!
I don't fancy myself a designer (no matter how much Bravo I watch). And while I think I do ok with choosing colors, I fail miserably at choosing wall hangings and such. Johnathan and I have been very fortunate to receive great wall hangings as gifts from friends and family.
Christmas was no exception. This last holiday I received a gift from David that contained these music notes with phrases on them. I have always really liked these sayings but never seemed to find them displayed in such a way that appealed to me for our house.
"Dance like no one is watching"
"Sing like no one is listening"
"Work like you don't need the money"
The final one on the end says "Love like you've never been hurt"
A few nails later another wall in our house is decorated. I displayed these in the living room so they can be viewed from the kitchen cut-away. This was such a thoughtful, beautiful gift! I love how the words are displayed in such a unique way, and of course the shape expresses my own love of music. I have no idea where David purchased these, but my best guess is maybe a place like Kirklands. At any rate, they are just fantastic!

A month has passed...
Since my last blog.
Don't fret; I have not abandoned the blog! Things are very busy at this time in the school year with the semester switching over, meaning for me 3 new classes of students in 2 new subjects (one I have never taught before!). I have started my 2nd semester at ASU and our percussion group is entering its competition season.
We had SNOW here in the Metropolis of Cherryville last week (on Inauguration Day). Before it melted (at noon), I managed to snap some photos of the house and the yard with a nice dusting of white. This is the best shot of the set.
Here are two photos of the (newly finished) guest bedroom. It's kind of hurting for furniture and decor. I'd really like to get some framed prints for this room at some point. However, the fact remains that this room is ready to have occupants!
The guest bathroom is painted and the tile is down on the floor. We have some sweeping and cleaning to do before I hang the shower curtain and towels to get the room ready to take photos.
I hope to do more blogging in the days/weeks ahead. I want to do more sharing about the products I buy, the books I read and the (silly) adventures my husband and I have as newlyweds. 2009 is shaping up to be a good year!
